garden update 4/28/08

April 28 garden

Our community garden plot, “before.” The plot is 1/2 size–about 200 square feet. The community garden is dividing all newly available plots in half to accommodate more of the people on the waiting list. Which is great, since otherwise we probably wouldn’t have a space yet, even after 3 years on the list.

This photo shows the ground after the initial clearing, with a few herbs that we saved from our last two moves, planted in the right-hand corner: thyme, sage, chives, and lavender. Near the herbs is a pot of strawberries that I plan to divide and plant along the border. There are raspberries along two sides of the garden, which will provide a bit of welcome privacy–the plot is right up against a busy sidewalk. Privacy for what, you ask? For sitting and watching the garden grow!
